This approach to learning uses, as its basis, expertly crafted questioning. The process leads students from the novice state to increasingly more complex states of learning using:

1. The Memory (knowledge) components of learning for recall and explanation;
2. The Judgment-related deeper knowledge components of discernment and deliberation;
3. The Crafting/Construction components of the learning that involve applying and creating, actually doing something with that knowledge and understanding. In simplest terms, the student in step 1. gains the factual knowledge to use in step 2, deeply understands the learning, and then, step 3, does something personally with that knowledge.

The Three-Dimensional Questioning approach is specifically geared to teaching and training in schoolrooms and industrial training applications. Knowing the approach and using it properly places the teacher or trainer in the higher ranks of instructional effectiveness.
