App Store Description

‘A Critical Thinking Questioning Framework for Guided Reading' (Fiction and Non-fiction) is the second in a series of reading apps from Alan Peat Ltd. Written by Bryn Goodman, this is the follow up to Alan Peat’s hugely popular ‘Guided Reading Questioning Framework’

It has been designed to help busy teachers to structure their text-based questioning in ten key areas:
Explanation of a Character’s Motives
Textual Anatomy
Recasting
Sequencing
Inference
Deduction
Purpose of The Text
Authorial Technique
Comparing Texts
Extracting Information

Where applicable each area includes a continuum of both fiction and non-fiction questions divided into six key sections: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation. These can be used to develop or reinforce children’s skills through critical thinking.

The areas covered in the app have been identified through analysis of UK Key Stage 2 SATs papers from 2004-2015. Regardless of tests, these skills are fundamental to children’s comprehension of texts and will help them to develop the critical thinking skills they will need as they progress.

The app is easy to use and will help to avoid ad hoc and/or repetitive questioning in guided reading sessions. Each 'area' includes a note-taking section. Notes are saved 'in app' but can also be backed-up using Dropbox. Further questions designed by staff and/or clusters of schools can therefore be added, making this an ever-expanding resource.

A 'must-have' app for all schools to support the development of reading.
