ANALOGyDR Drum Synth (AUv3)

ANALOGyDR is a virtual instrument plugin that can run standalone, or in any AU compatible host such as Logic Pro or GarageBand. Please note that the standalone version does not include a built-in keyboard - you need to connect a suitable MIDI device to play the synth.

*** IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ ***

ANALOGyDR is a single voice (monophonic) virtual analog synthesiser designed specifically for creating drum and percussion type sounds. Please note that it is not a pitched instrument for playing melodic lines, and does not include a rhythm pattern sequencer. To create a virtual drum kit with ANALOGyDR you need to load multiple instances on separate tracks in a DAW such as Logic or GarageBand and record MIDI notes into each track.

Design Overview

ANALOGyDR is a tribute to the now legendary vintage analog drum machines that used simple synthesis engines to create their sounds by combining basic oscillators and noise sources. ANALOGyDR has two variable pitch sine wave oscillators, along with white and pink noise generators, three filter types and an analog flavoured drive section. Despite the basic design, ANALOGyDR can create quite a wide variety of sonic textures, and the factory presets include a selection of percussion sounds inspired by the Roland CompuRhythm CR-78 (*), along with some interesting effects such as emulations of a cracking whip, a cardboard box and a mouse trap!

The single voice architecture of ANALOGyDR is also useful in situations where you might want to add one or two additional percussion sounds to supplement your favourite drum machine app and gives you the flexibility to apply different effects processing to each ANALOGyDR track. Alternatively, use ANALOGyDR as a sound design tool to create your own unique percussion sounds that you can record and then load into your favourite sampler app.

The iPad previews were created using multiple ANALOGyDR tracks in GarageBand, plus some reverb and echo from the built-in GarageBand effects.
