The Autism Travel Club program provides people and families living with autism a user-friendly digital platform where they can easily connect with and access special offers from participating autism-ready businesses and destinations.
The Autism Traveler app offers families with autism personalized, concierge-style service and access to a wide variety of participating businesses and destinations that have received education and training to provide welcoming and supportive experiences for families with autism.
How ATC’s National Autism Travel Card program works for families
For just $10/year, families can download their digital Autism Traveler app. With access to the ATC App, identifying participating autism-friendly businesses and destinations is just a few taps away.
Upon arrival to participating businesses, simply check in and show the confirmation in a dignified way to identify as a family in need of an autism-friendly experience, without needing to say a word.
The program was originally developed by Surfside Beach-based nonprofit organization Champion Autism Network (CAN) to help ensure that families with autism have the same access to life-enriching play and travel experiences as typical families get to enjoy. CAN will continue championing the program by serving as an ATC premiere affiliate partner.
Every day, millions of families venture out to venues, attractions, and destinations for playful and adventurous experiences which are essential for quality of life. But for people with autism, the lights, sounds, smells, crowds, and unfamiliar surroundings can create overstimulation, overwhelm, and anxiety, and the experience can become frustrating and even frightening.
“As a mother of a child with autism and the founder of CAN and ATC, I know that families with autism want to come out and have fun…go out to dinner, go to the movies, attend events, enjoy vacations, but there are still many spaces and environments that are triggering and not supportive of our needs. As ATC works with participating businesses to create more inclusive, autism-friendly, judgement-free environments, we are opening up a world of opportunities for families, businesses, and communities,” Becky Large, CEO of Autism Travel Club.
