Brain health is key to live not only more but better. Keeping our brain healthy is essential for a good quality of life. The Barcelona Brain Health Initiative (BBHI) is a research project promoted by the Institut Guttmann, which aims at discovering what we can do to keep the brain healthy throughout our lives.

The project invites the citizens of Catalonia to know more and better the state of health of the brain but, above all, to incorporate those healthy living habits that have a positive effect on their brain health.

This requires at least 3,000 healthy volunteers (without medical diagnosis of neurological disease or psychiatric condition) between 40 and 65 years old, a suitable age range for the prevention of disorders that may appear at these ages. The research aims at having an impact on the characterization, quantification, monitoring and optimization of biomedical, social and environmental markers that interfere in the appearance of this type of diseases.

Volunteers should sign up through the project website https://bbhi.cat/participa, where they will find detailed information on the project, as well as tips to improve brain health.

By using this mobile application, users will be able to interact with researchers, receiving notifications and relevant news from the project. Likewise, through the app the participants will be able to fill in a set of validated questionnaires, which will allow us to investigate the life habits of the population in general. Future versions of the app will be the channel through which follow-up and coaching will be performed during next phases of the project.

Tips for improving brain health
Have plans for the future and a life perspective that illusions us, exercise regularly, maintain satisfactory social relationships, follow a balanced diet, challenge the brain with cognitive tasks that require a new learning. The BBHI project promotes the most favorable habits and lifestyles including areas such as: cognitive training, physical exercise, nutrition, vital plan, integral health, socialization or sleep. In the web https://bbhi.cat/consells you can find a list of tips grouped in the different themes, which will be updated regularly.

The results of the study will be made available to society and will be available on the web.
