In today’s world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training, we hear a lot about “the basics” and “advanced-level techniques.” However, no instructional has yet been produced on the topic of “Intermediate Level Jiu Jitsu Training” - that is until now!
If you are a BJJ aficionado looking to gain an advantage in sparring, one that doesn’t involve going to the gym to get stronger, then this instructional is for you!
Would you like to learn more than “technique? Would you like to learn how to train so that your skill sets will overcome the bigger and stronger students at your academy? If so, take a look at each chapter:
Chapter 1 begins with reviewing your basics. In it, I review the extreme mechanics of twenty-one techniques.
Chapter 2 focuses on tightening and refining your current skill levels. I share this chapter because beginner-level students often learn techniques, practice them 20-50 times, and then want to quickly learn more techniques. This leads to them being “heavy” on the knowledge side of things and “light” on the skill-set side.
Chapter 3 shows you some of the more common mistakes in Jiu Jitsu. In this chapter, I focus on the ones that lead to unnecessary vulnerabilities, and injuries, as well as a reliance upon athleticism to get the job done.
Chapter 4 shows you the difference between basic and intermediate-level theory. When students aren’t taught the difference, they tend to resort to and rely on athleticism more than they should.
Chapter 5 focuses on teaching you a handful of counters to the basics.
Chapter 6 teaches you the extreme basics of combinations. When I write “extreme basics”, I am referring to the first couple of levels of combination training. Other instructors teach you how to put techniques together into simple combinations. This chapter will teach you WHAT to focus on when doing those combinations. In other apps, I will teach you the twelve levels of combination training!
Chapter 7 focuses on one of the most important topics in Jiu Jitsu: Timing! In this chapter, I not only define it but I show you how to train and develop it.
Chapter 8 focuses on another all-important topic in Jiu Jitsu: Positioning. How we position ourselves BEFORE we begin to execute a technique determines the amount of strength we use to affect the technique. Study on this chapter!
Chapter 9 gives you a peek at a few grappling matches. What’s most important is not the grappling match but rather the method in which they are conducted. Learn more how I’ve taught students while sparring with them (i.e., there’s so much more to sparring than tapping them out).
Chapter 10 gives you five (5) extra items to help you in your skills development!
Collectively, these chapters demonstrate there is A LOT MORE TO JIU JITSU TRAINING than just technique. Learn the tools that will give you the advantage you seek!
In addition to each video chapter, I have included two written articles:
1. BJJ 201 in Review and Extras. This article provides you with a comprehensive view of each chapter. More information is contained in this article than the original VHS instructional - which was filmed in 2003 (way ahead of its time back then).
2. BJJ 201 Training Progression. This article will teach you a five-step training method to help you develop usable, repeatable, and measurable skill sets over time.
When the videos and articles are combined, you will definitely experience a positive difference in your Jiu Jitsu skills in just a matter of weeks!
