Buy & Hold

Buy & Hold is an Investment strategy to buy into stocks for a long-term, but with a clever change. Unlike a typical long-term investment strategy that requires the investor to forget the investment for a few years – another term for the passive investor, Buy & Hold strategy requires the investor to be an active instead of a passive. The idea is to let the investment operations in the performance zone of a stock and get out when it enters the non-performance zone.

The principal behind Buy & Hold strategy is a subtle borrow from the way Mutual Funds operate. An ideal Mutual Fund is actively managed, and therefore, it could be safely assumed that the fund manager has an ethical responsibility to maximize the returns by investing in stocks that are in the performance zone. In other words, they must swiftly get out of the stocks that enter a non-performance zone.

Buy & Hold offers the same tool that a typical Mutual Fund manager uses. An investor can take a position in an active stock as suggested by the Buy & Hold tool and continue to hold the position until it is in the performance zone. As soon as the stock moves into a non-performance zone, the Buy & Hold tool signals the investor to exit from the position. In other words, by following Buy & Hold signals, an investor is managing the investment actively – just like a typical Mutual Fund.

Buy & Hold is an investment strategy because the investor does not have any target, unlike trading strategies (like Swing Trade). The purpose is to achieve superior returns from the performance of active stocks without the hassles of tracking stocks daily.
