Cahokia Mounds Site Tours

Cahokia Mounds is one of 20 World Heritage Sites in the United States. Located in Southern Illinois eight miles east of St. Louis, Cahokia is the largest prehistoric Indian site north of Mexico.

Experience Cahokia as it was 1000 years ago with three multimedia trail tours and an audio tour of the Interpretive Center. Archaeologists call the Native Americans who built the giant earthen mounds the Mississippians, and Cahokia was their crowning achievement. The population was approximately 10,000 - 20,000 in 1050 AD, with 120 mounds within six square miles at the time.

Produced for the Cahokia Mounds Museum Society with input from noted archaeologists and tribal leaders, the tours have received numerous awards including an esteemed MUSE Award from the American Association of Museums in 2009.
