CarPooler rideshare

This app is made to help commuters split the costs for a car pool fairly, and is intended primarily for people commuting between Sweden and Denmark over the Oresund bridge.

For those of us commuting to work by car over longer distances, sharing the ride with others is a great way to save money and to do our part for the environment. However, anyone who has tried driving in a car pool with more than two people will know the pain of splitting the driving costs in a fair way. Adding the cost of tolls with complicated pricing schemes makes this headache even worse.

This app lets the members of a car pool register the driver/drivers on a day-by-day basis, who rode along in the car and whose account was used to pay for toll (again, the app is intended for commuting over the Oresund bridge). Based on this information, the app will calculate the total cost of travel for each month and how much each member should pay (or get back). It is sufficient that a single member uses the app, but the idea is for several users to connect to a group and contribute data.

The calculations used in the app have been set up to balance driving and toll charges according to each member's involvement in the group - essentially, the member should drive in proportion to his or her share of the group's total travels, and should likewise pay a share of bridge toll in proportion to share of the travels. If one member drives more (or less) than required, his or her debt to the group is adjusted accordingly.
