App Store Description

‘Counting on and counting back 1-20’ is a two-page app which will significantly strengthen any young child’s ability for accurate mental calculation. It poses the question ‘What is 1, 2 or 3 higher or lower than a given number?’ The pupil must decide what is the correct answer from the numbers provided, then drag and drop it into the answer box for each question.

Each task can be repeated at will with different numbers, presented at random. Every time the task is correctly completed, the pupil is rewarded with a large tick and a scoreboard which shows speed and accuracy.

This app is the introduction to the full twelve-page version of the app. The full version extends this idea with numbers up to 1000 and in counting on/back in 10s and 100s as well as units. The learner must focus on what is called the ‘place value’ of a digit. Distinguishing the difference of the digit 7 in the numbers 7, 273, 752 etc. is a skill that must be learned. The full app will certainly help in the development of this skill.

Age Range: 4 – 6
