What is it about?

The Creek Heritage Trail is a series of outdoor interpretive centers linking significant historic sites in the Chattahoochee Trace region of southeastern Alabama and southwestern Georgia. All of the sites featured are associated with the area’s robust Native American heritage and the series of events that brought about Removal. The trail focuses on the importance of this unique story in the region’s development and the way what occurred here has national significance. It highlights the many people, places, and events which are part of the larger saga of the transition of this region from Native American domain to Deep South heartland. Historical sites featured include village sites, battlefields, Removal camps, historic homes, and early American settler communities. The ways this area’s Native Americans lived and interacted with their environment, European colonial officials, and American settlers are major facets of the interpretation provided.
