Critical Alphabet

The Critical Alphabet was developed as a deck of cards by Dr. Lesley-Ann Noel, to introduce designers and students to language related to critical theory, diversity and inclusion and to help them reflect on their design process.

Each card introduces theories under that letter. Then the cards introduce a question or comment to help make a connection to the theory and design practice.

The deck is by no means a complete critical alphabet, but rather an introduction to concepts that designers, students and even other professionals can reflect on while working. The public can also suggest words and theories for the Critical Alphabet by using the ‘suggest a word’ feature.
