The Financial University has become one of the key highbrow events scheduled for autumn. This year, Joseph E. Stiglitz, a renowned economist, holder of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, will be the Forum guest.
After the Russian Presidential elections of the year 2018, the Government of the Russian Federation declared that we should achieve accelerated economic growth, which was supposed to allow us to join the world’s top five economies. To achieve the goal, the resources were accumulated, including financial ones. However, much more conservative viewpoints have been increasingly heard recently. Experts speak about the downward phase of the credit cycle and say that the world is on the brink of an economic recession provoked, among other things, by trade wars.
Is it fair to say that we should be prepared not for the industrial growth at a pace higher than the world average, but for a recession? Did the economic agenda change in first half of the year 2019? What should the government be prepared for today: an accelerated growth or mitigation of consequences of a possible crisis? Let’s think together about the key Russia’s medium-term economic development priorities.
