The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens (The Gardens) extend over 42 hectares from the escarpment to the sea.

The Gardens were established over 130 years ago and have survived World War II and multiple cyclones. Known for their collections of north Australian and other tropical species, The Gardens is one of the few botanic gardens in the world with marine and estuarine plants growing naturally.

There is an extensive collection of palms and cycads plus colourful displays of exotic heliconias, gingers, tropical orchids and bromeliads. The Africa-Madagascar garden has a unique collection showcasing the world's Baobab and Boab trees.

Opening Hours:

Admission to the Gardens is free and open daily from 7am to 7pm. Please check our Facebook page for more information and full opening hours.
The Gardens is a cool place where you can relax under a canopy of rain trees and tall palms in the heart of Darwin.

Parking:

There are two entries to the Gardens and parking in the Gardens is free.
Geranium Street Entrance, Is located at the top of the Gardens and is in close proximity to the Cycad Garden Snake Bean Community Garden and Holtze Lawn.
Gardens Road Entrance is the main entrance providing direct access to Eva’s Café and Gardens Visitor and Event Centre.

Accessibility:

The main paths in the Gardens are sealed and suitable for wheelchairs. There are also some maintained gravel walking paths.
A mobility scooter is available from the Visitor and Event Centre free of charge but bookings are required. For more information or to book, call 8999 4418.
