DOFCompute is a standalone depth-of-field calculator that provides more power than the standard DOF calculator, in a compact and interactive format. It uses a set of "exact" optical equations that provide a very accurate and consistent set of calculations across all equipment selections.

DOFCompute will not only compute depth-of-field, it will also solve for subject distance, fStop, or focal length from the depth of field as an input value. Hence you can “request” a DOF of 3 inches and look at the lens and distance characteristics that you need to achieve this.

Subject distance, fStop, and focal length may be entered by slider or keyboard. Subject distance may be entered in either English or Metric. (For example, numbers like 3in, 3ft, 3mi, 3mm, 3cm, 3m, or even 3′, 3″, etc.) Conversion between English and Metric for subject distance and DOF is immediate, at the press of a button.

Pupil magnification may now be entered as an optional input value.

Hyperfocal distance, focal distance range, magnification, and width and height of focal field at the focal distance are computed along with DOF.

A pop-up calculator is provided to assist with manual calculations.

In addition to some interface enhancements, a teleconverter and/or an extension tube may be defined as input values.
