#dotdot is the companion app of a WiFi mesh network made of small electronic boards called “#dot’s”, that can be purchased from the DotDot S.A.S. company. The said WiFi network bears “#dotdot” as SSID: it is an ad-hoc, inter-operable, self-healing, SIM-less and non supervised mesh network.
When switched on, each #dot is seeking and connecting to its peers, without any human intervention. The #dot nodes create an ambient off-grid 2.4GHz WiFi network that can be detected with a smartphone, i.e. a WiFi network with no internet access.
Users who have the password of the private #dotdot network car connect to the #dotdot WiFi: their phone is connecting to one of the #dot nodes (usually the one with which the RSSI is highest, this being managed without user intervention).
Once connected to the #dotdot mesh network, users can open the #dotdot app, and access to the following functionalities:
• In off-grid mode, users can use the chat function and exchange text messages, images or videos with any user connected to the same #dotdot mesh network
• In WiFi repeater mode, users can link the #dotdot mesh network to a 2.4GHz WiFi gateway, and enjoy internet access even from a distance to the said gateway, in a local zone where the said gateway is not accessible
• In any mode, users can visualize in real time the topology and status of the mesh network to which their smartphone is connected
• Information and FAQ’s on what is the #dotdot mesh network.
#dot’s are pocket-size devices, so they can easily be carried by users: as users move, the mesh reconfigures by itself without intervention to optimize the throughput between nodes. Said throughput is between 1 and 12 Mbps.
