Drniš Natura 2000

What is it about?

Natura 2000 is an ecological network composed of areas of importance for the conservation of endangered species and habitat types of the European Union. Its goal is to preserve or rebuild establish a favorable condition more of a thousand endangered and rare species and about 230 natural and of semi-natural habitat types. Natura Drniš project, City of Drniš wants to present its rich natural heritage as part of the tourist offer. By repurposing the old, the devastated facilities during the project will be developed a network of small hostels thus increasing total number of accommodation capacities on this area. The project was submitted in April 2017. years on the call "Promoting sustainable development of natural heritage ”, total worth HRK 5,674,022.42, of which HRK 4,765,774.50 was approved grants from the Operational Competitiveness and Cohesion Program 2014 - 2020 within the European Structural and investment funds. The implementation of the project will develop visitor infrastructure and facilities: arranging a pedestrian-bicycle path on Promina in the length of 6 km along which is planned to place two rest areas and urban equipment; remodeling of an old school building in Bogatići Miljevački in the hostel s capacity of 20 beds; supplementing the public bicycle procurement system an additional 12 bicycles for public use, thus continuing the development of cycling tourism in the Drniš area. In addition to the visitor infrastructure, create will be a multilingual mobile application through which users will be able to learn more about microlocation of the Natura 2000 ecological network on which they are located and download service and tourist information on facilities near by. The application will become so a kind of platform for promotion local, autochthonous products in Drniš. For educating the youngest ages on the topic Drniš natural heritage is planned making an interactive book that contains sound and image effects. Within the project a series of educational workshops will also be held for kindergarten and elementary school children age and children with special needs on the importance and promotion of sustainable development natural heritage; volunteer workshops construction of dry stone walls, bunja and reconstruction of guvna, arranging ponds and the environment and setting up stone benches. For the local population on the marginal parts of Promina to be maintained There will be environmental education agriculture and landscape conservation and Fr. the concept of active vacation in Drniš. One of the project activities that relations on habitat protection and conservation is under the Natura 2000 ecological network bird monitoring, carried out by a partner on the project JU Priroda Šibensko-kninske counties. The project is being implemented in the area ecological network of Krka and the surrounding plateau which is of extreme importance to birds, and activities monitoring refers to counting and measuring abundance and distribution bird species or habitats through time period of 12 months.
