The Durham Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a jail diversion model based on the Memphis Model. It was established in 2007, when several key stakeholders and Law Enforcement Partners traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to be trained in the concepts and components of CIT. It is a partnership between National Alliance on Mental Illness Durham Affiliate (NAMI Durham), Alliance Behavioral Healthcare, the Durham First Responders, and Community Trainers/Partners/Resources.

It was established in 2007, when several key stakeholders and Law Enforcement Partners traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to be trained in the concepts and components of CIT. It is a partnership between National Alliance on Mental Illness Durham Affiliate (NAMI Durham), Alliance Behavioral Healthcare, the Durham First Responders, and Community Trainers/Partners/Resources.
Over the last 10 years, Durham CIT has trained almost 1,000 First Responders, which includes EMS, Detention Officers, Telecommunicators, and Campus Police and Security. We look forward to serving Durham County in the future.
