Many courts already allow citizens to pay fines and fees online through web-based portals and mobile devices. But what if we took things much, much further? What if, for a minor violation, a citizen can provide the necessary documentation and forms, receive a decision from a judge and pay any resulting fines, all without ever having to enter a courtroom or take time off of work?
The Bench app was originally conceived and developed by DXC Technology Public Sector Digital Services team as part of NCSC’s 2017 CourtHack. It was named one of the winners of the hackathon. The DXC Bench game uses the winning concept from CourtHack to allow a citizen could pay for minor offenses using their mobile device and more importantly, to request leniency from the Court without appearing in court. Using the phone’s capabilities, the DXC Bench game allows the Citizen to provide simulated information such as verification of identification, proof of income and liability, and employment info which is required by an actual Court to consider leniency.
The DXC Bench game was developed specifically for 2017 NSCS Court Tech Conference attendees to experience digital handling of minor citations with the Bench app.
