臺中縣市政府於民國99年12月25日合併成立臺中市直轄市，原省轄成立之臺中市建築師公會及臺中縣建築師公會持續運作已歷多年。惟臺中縣市合併改制為直轄市係配合國土規劃之政府行政作為，加諸建築師法第30條之內容規範，兩會為期會務之永續發展，並增進國際競爭力及大臺中區域整體均衡發展，幾經協商研議推動兩會合併成立臺中直轄市建築師公會。
