花蓮與台東兩縣地廣人稀，醫療資源分布相對不均，平均每一醫療機構服務面積遠高於全國平均，且每平方公里執業醫事人員遠低於全國平均，顯示就醫相對耗時不便。另外花東兩縣因年輕人外出發展多，造成高齡化程度也高於全國平均，子女會擔心家中長輩的就醫情形，有必要採取適當的策略，改善區內醫療照護資源，並且協助提醒外地家屬，了解花東家中病患的門診時間。
因此本花東癌症照護網，整合花東醫療院所，透過癌症共同照護與治療的概念，除了以推播方式提醒花東癌症病人未來三天的門診資訊，藉由這個平台讓花東癌症病患在轉診就醫無縫接軌，另外也會提供個人化癌症衛教服務。
