What is it about?

This App lets you interactively explore the science behind earthquakes using illustrative 3D animations and simulations. You can visualize the movement of body waves and surface waves using 3D animations. You can create 2D longitudinal/transverse waves in the simulations to gain a deeper understanding of how the particles move in body waves. Also checkout a real working seismograph in this App that will plot the graph as you move your iPad!

List of interactive explorations and simulations -

1. Interactively explore the causes for earthquakes
2. Types of faults
3. Create a longitudinal wave yourself, play around with parameters like frequency & amplitude to gain a deeper understanding of how p-waves form and move
4. Create a transverse wave yourself and see how s-waves could cause more damage than p-waves
5. Understand why p-waves are faster than s-waves and why body waves are faster than surface waves
6. See surface waves in action in 3D animation!
7. Play around with a real working seismograph!
8. Interactively explore why only body waves move through Earth's internal structure.
9. An illustrative animation to show how body waves and surface waves can damage a house.
10. See how body waves move through the Earth's internal structure and how shadow zones are formed.

While interactively exploring, you can find out answer to many interesting questions such as -
a. Why only body waves move through earth's internal structure?
b. Is the earthquake felt at the opposite end of the earth? Why or why not?
c. Which waves cause more damage and why?
d. Out of p-waves, s-waves and surface waves, which of these waves reach a seismic station first and why?

For Enthusiasts / Parents - Parents can use this app effectively to make your child practice and learn Science skills from these highly interactive & touch enabled game-like simulations that children would love to play with.
For Students - Students can perform the activities on the simulations presented on several figures.
For Teachers - This app can be used as a classroom tool to supplement teaching that enhances productivity. This app boosts your classroom productivity & provides a fun filled lab experience in your classroom
