Eco Friendly, Natural and Sustainable ProductsI have a blended family with three beautiful daughters (two bio and one bonus). I met my husband Kosta (and his amazing daughter) when I was in my mid 30s. Kosta and I wanted to build on our family – however, falling pregnant was harder than we anticipated and we needed help. Through many a conversation on our long journey to fall pregnant, I was made more aware of how the ingredients of everyday products interact with the environment and our bodies.

One example that stood out is that our skin and our senses act like sponges. When we shower, the products we use (shampoo, conditioner, bath wash etc) are absorbed by our skin and we breathe in the scent. The rest goes down the drain and into the water system.

I’d never thought about this and the potential consequences of decisions I was making on something as seemingly innocent as the bath wash I used. This example, more than anything, highlighted to me the importance of natural ingredients and products. What’s a better way to start your day, a fresh and natural scent or an artificial one?

As someone who also suffers from migraines I have always reacted badly from artificial and strong-smelling scents. I started to really look and consider the ingredients on the labels of the products I had at home. I realised a lot of them contained synthetic ingredients and the ‘nasties’ my research informed me I should be avoiding. So what to do? Replacing them all at once was an expense I couldn’t afford at the time (especially on top of paying for IVF). I felt overwhelmed.

Then, after years of trying, we finally got the Big Fat Positive pregnancy result we had been praying for. We were so excited – and also a bit terrified! It helped focus my thinking and prompted the idea that I could just replace one product at a time. As my regular products ran out, I replaced them with a low tox, eco-friendly and sustainable version. I also started researching the products I wanted to use for our newborn. Again, the options were overwhelming. Product labels seemed promising until I looked deeper into ingredients lists. Which products could I really trust?

I kept up my research, finding and testing many products that are low-tox, eco-friendly and sustainable. Beautiful products that I am very happy to share with you via Ecolix.May be an image of 2 people
