App Store Description

Edgelands enables visitors to encounter immersive sound and text whilst journeying through the Barbican’s iconic Brutalist architecture at their own pace. This is a chance to explore, examine, and reimagine the edgelands of the Barbican Centre. Leave day-to-day at the door, and discover an architecture of other spaces, resounding with the echoes of its Utopian foundations.

On arrival at the Barbican, put on your headphones and open the app. Following onscreen instructions, you are invited to roam the foyers. Bluetooth beacons installed around the space communicate with the app to trigger sound. The beacons are one-way transmitters, so cannot track your device. No data is gathered from you.

Please note: An option is available for visitors who prefer to avoid stairs. Devices and high quality headphones are available to borrow from the Barbican Shop.

Edgelands is an interactive composition, created by Seth Scott in association with Hannah Bruce & Company. Commissioned by the Barbican.

The App was developed through a University of York research grant, and supported by the Department of Music.
