Edmonton Commonwealth Walkway

Supported by The Outdoor Trust, Edmonton’s Commonwealth Walkway travels for 10 kilometres through the North Saskatchewan River Valley. From the Funicular to the Groat Bridge, the Walkway includes paths to the Indigenous Art Park, John Walter Museum and Alberta Legislature. Medallions displaying Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s personal monogram have been carefully placed along the Walkway.

The Edmonton Commonwealth Walkway App provides an interactive experience whether you are walking the Walkway, or countries away. Explore Edmonton’s enigmatic past and present through stories, image galleries and audio clips, all connected to Medallions along the walkway. Follow storylines that interest you and the app will deliver new stories on your journey through this stretch of Edmonton’s beautiful river valley.

Whether you have been here for 24 hours, 24 months, 24 years, or twenty four hundred years, stories along the North Saskatchewan River define a sense of place —our place—and of who we are. Maybe you’ve canoed along the meandering river, got engaged on the banks, won a baseball championship on the flats or watched the golden sun set over the lush valley from the High Level Bridge. Big or small your story is worth sharing. Submissions may be shared on our social media accounts, or featured in a future Edmonton Commonwealth Walkway storyline.
