EgoSpeed is a speedometer app that provides the best possible current speed by combining GPS speed updates with your iPhone’s acceleration sensor signals.
EgoSpeed is optimized for best performance in passenger cars. It has been designed for simple operation to minimize driver distraction.
It offers a selection of displays to suit the intended installation: Supercar, Classic, Virtual and Barrel. This app is ideal as an addition to the existing speedometer, for example in older cars with mechanical speedometers. It also provides a larger, clearer display than some modern vehicles.
Speed can be displayed in MPH or in KM/H.
EgoSpeed requires location services to be enabled when in use. It only uses the location services to receive GPS speed. It does not use or access your iPhone’s GPS location. It stores GPS speed temporarily for 10 seconds in order to monitor the quality of the GPS reception. EgoSpeed does not store any speed values permanently.
Your iPhone’s location services typically provide GPS speed updates in one second intervals. EgoSpeed use the signals from your iPhone’s acceleration sensors to ‘fill the gaps’ and to compensate for short periods of poor GPS reception. EgoSpeed will perform an automatic self-calibration whenever your iPhone is repositioned. For best performance, use a stable car mount.
The GPS reception quality, the self-calibration status and the battery charge level are clearly displayed.
Please note:
EgoSpeed will not work on devices without GPS reception. If GPS reception is poor for more than 10 seconds, EgoSpeed will stop displaying speed. This can happen in tunnels, underground car parks or near tall buildings. Large, nearby metal structures can cause errors in the GPS speed provided by your iPhone’s location services and can result in errors in the speed displayed.
EgoSpeed’s self-calibration will take longer on poor road surfaces and at high cornering speeds. In some cases, it may fail to complete. In this case, speed will still be displayed but may exhibit a delay when accelerating or braking sharply.
