App Store Description

This FREE trial version of Empathy Pics gives you a small sample of the content you’ll get in the FULL version so you can see how it works and try it out.

Empathy Pics is a professional speech therapy app that targets the follows areas:

1) making social inferences
2) understanding the feelings and perspectives of others
3) verbal expression including talking about personal emotions
3) problem-solving e.g. deciding what to do in different situations
4) learning appropriate responses in social situations e.g. how to respond to good or bad news

Empathy Pics is ideal for older children and teenagers with autism and cognitive-communication difficulties as well as adults with autism and brain injury.

The Emotions & Situations activity contains over 60 scenarios that each contain five questions.

1) What do you see in the picture?
2) How do you think the person feels?
3) How would you feel if you were in this situation?
4) What would you do in this person's situation?
5) Have you ever been in a similar situation? Tell me about it

Each question acts as a thinking prompt and encourages interaction between the user and the therapist, teacher or family member. Learners are encouraged to think deeply about the people in the photos, the situations they are in and how they might feel.

The Showing Concern activity presents high-quality color photos and scenarios. The user is asked to think about what they might say to the other person to show interest or concern. Multiple choice answers are available.

The app is a highly versatile resource that can be used in speech therapy sessions and in the classroom. It also serves as a handy homework resource.

Empathy Pics will help learners to improve their ability to make social inferences, interpret other people’s feelings, express their own emotions and show concern or interest.
