App Store Description

The Severn bridges based between England and wales are major connections for the M4 and M48 motorways. Traditionally both crossings / bridges have been owned and operated by private companies.
“Is the bridge open” and Enviroute have created an app that allows local residents and commuters to check the status of both bridges in order to plan their routes more effectively. From time to time the bridges are closed due to maintenance and/or adverse weather conditions and, since the ownership of the Severn bridges has changed there has been a lack of reliable communications around the status of the M48 Severn bridge and the M4 Severn Bridge.
“Is the bridge open” is here to help with this and to provide information on when either of the Severn Bridges are closed or partially closed.

This app is a community app and will always be free to anyone who wishes to use it.
We are in the first stages of the app creation and have many more features and updates planned which will only improve the quality of information on offer.
We urge users of the app to report to us any inaccurate information which we will then use to keep the status of the Severn Bridges optimised.
As this is a community based app we are always on the lookout for local admins to assist in the maintenance of the information. If you would like to help us do this please feel free to get in touch via www.isthebridgeopen.co.uk and use the contact email provided.
The next phase of this apps development is to gain access to specific API information directly from the highways agency (Highways England and Highways Wales) which will dramatically increase the effectiveness of the Severn bridge status. However, in order to get this information we need as many local residents to download the app and become daily users. The more daily users we get who check if the Severn bridge is open or not, the faster we can add more features to the app.
To check if the Severn bridge is open or any roadworks that may be affecting your travel across the bridges hit the ‘reload’ button in the top right corner of the app.
This is the first step in a community based project to help people plan their routes more effectively and do their bit for the environment in an area (Chepstow) that has been plagued with traffic and pollution problems for too long.
Local residents of Chepstow have been crying out for more accurate updates on the Severn Bridge closures for some time now, and are not getting any support from any of the highways agencies in England or Wales. Come and join the Enviroroute community and lets take matters into our own hands and solve this problem together.
“Is the Severn bridge open?” Find out instantly with this handy tool.
Severn bridge updates at the touch of a button instead of endless maps, websites or twitter accounts. Find out instantly is the Severn Bridge is open and get updates sent directly to your device (Feature coming soon!) before you set off on your journey.
The accuracy of information is improving with every update and the more users we get, the faster we will be able to add more features to the app.
