Allows:
- Open/Close the refuge for bookings
- Check-in a horse owner with a booking
- Allocate a yard (lodging) for the horses
- Record if a payment has been made (in various external systems)
- Check-out a horse from the yard (lodging)
- Finalise a booking to allow refunds to be processed

The idea of a Safer Equine Bushfire Refuge emerged out of a need to address the fact that no purpose-built large animal refuge currently exists in South Australia.


It also hinged on research which told us that, in natural disasters, animal owners can often risk their own lives to save animals. We know that horse owners face particular logistical challenges for preparing for and responding to disasters due to the difficulty of managing large animals. For that reason, early evacuation is the recommended course of action for horse owners who are unprepared to stay and defend or safely shelter in place. We also know that horse owners are more likely to follow this advice if they have a safe and suitable place to go.

The Safer Equine Refuge platform (www.equinerefuge.com) offers
- Horse owners to pre-plan for an emergency with check lists.
- Horse owners to register details of their horses and locations to be ready to seek refuge.
- Horse owners to find and book refuge at times of emergency in real time.
- Property owners to register details of their locations to offer as a refuge.
- Volunteers at a refuge to check-in horses with bookings.
- An operator to manage and support horse owners, refuge providers and refuge volunteers.
