Like the seas join continents, fish unite men of the various countries. Since time immemorial, man named fishes, observe fish and cook them. Their names are a bridge between human societies past and present, they represent a world cultural heritage, a witness to the fragile wealth in the oceans.

Travelling abroad, wandering on the fishing harbor, on the fish market or eating in a restaurant, being able to translate the names of fishes allows understanding the other and helps penetrate within his culture, his tradition. Naming a fish in the language of the other offers the opportunity to exchange around a common heritage, an essential and ancestral knowledge of the sea, the art of fishing and eventually the culinary culture. Knowing how to name a fish also allows consuming fish in an informed and intelligent way in order to preserve this vulnerable resource. And thereby contributing to the protection of our common heritage and to the wealth in the oceans.

Fish Gourmet allows translating and identifying into 18 languages the names of more than 200 fish, crustaceans and shellfish commonly consumed. Fish Gourmet also provides information on their location, biology and vulnerability, enabling a smarter consumption.
