The Floyd Country Store is renowned as a place to experience authentic Appalachian music, and is home to a group of musicians and dancers who are carrying on the tradition of their families who’d pass the time playing music and dancing together. Since the first settlers landed in Virginia, the communities would gather with their friends and families from their front porch to the neighbor’s kitchen. In the 1980’s folks in Floyd took to coming out to the General Store and began the Friday Night Jamboree tradition that continues today.

Since the early 1900s, the site of the Floyd Country Store — originally called Farmer’s Supply — was a place where farmers, craftsmen, laborers and travelers all converged to trade wares and discuss the topics of the day. When the workday was done, these people of all ages and backgrounds would convene here to dance and share the music and lore native to the mountainous area known today as the Blue Ridge Plateau.
