App Store Description

Think of us as your smartest friend—sharing with you personalized reads—and much more!

Control - Adjust every setting for your recommendations. Simply swipe to a specific topic's feed and tap the cog icon on the top left. You can filter by type (e.g. tutorials, opinions, and news) or adjust the influence of factors like your history.

Friends - Follow your friends to see what they’re reading. This way you can keep up with what your friends find compelling, nuanced, and important.

Swipe - Easily view individual topics (just swipe right). This keeps things organized by whatever interest you'd like to focus on.

Refine - Focus your recommendations on the precise topic that matters to you, by tapping a subtopic on the top of a topic-specific feed.

Share - Know someone that doesn't use Gem? That's ok! Just tap the share button.

Search - Find exactly what you’re looking for with a specific search term. We take into account things like reading level and title quality to show you only the useful results.

Text-to-speech - Listen to most articles if you don’t have time to read them. Tap the sound icon on the top right after opening an article, sit back, and enjoy the article being read to you.

Daily read notification - If you like, get notified daily with a special find on something related to what you've been reading.

Rate - Rate with adjectives which help us better understand your taste. Instead of emotions, our ratings are derived from criteria like objectivity, importance, and convincingness. Above all, this keeps out sensationalism and improves quality.

Bookmark - Save your favorites for later. Either long press on an article in a feed, or tap the bookmark icon after opening it.

Follow - Keep informed on whatever your passions are—it's limitless. We have over 100k topics available, so whatever your obsession is, we've got you covered. Tap the plus icon on the top right of the home screen to make your own custom feed.

Control your feed. Discover more. Gem’s recommendations are based on exactly what you want to see. Choose a feed topic, adjust filters for popularity, content type, and writing style, and then rate specific recommendations. You’re in full control. As your preferences change, so does your Gem feed—it’s as unique as you are.

We’re concerned about the food we put in our bodies, and ought to think the same way about the information we put in our minds. As with the food industry exploiting the allure of sugar, much of today’s digital media exploit amusement and outrage for clicks. That’s why we made Gem, to cut through the junk.
