App Store Description
Welcome to the self-guided walking tour through the heart of Brisbane featuring the use of building stones from the early days of European settlement to the modern expansion of Australia’s third largest city.
The App gives an earth scientist's perspective on the history and cultural heritage of the sub-tropical capital of Queensland.
Geology has played a significant role in the development of Brisbane. Initially the Moreton Bay Penal Colony was established in 1824 at Redcliffe where coastal sandy soils on low lying land meant little fresh water and swarms of mosquitoes. The Colony then relocated to Brisbane where there were fertile soils along the river banks and water in the clay-lined stream just to the northwest of Kings Wharf.
