What is it about?
The GAMBLINGLESS: IN-THE-MOMENT app is an easy-to-use smartphone app that provides 24/7 gambling support to people who want to change their gambling. The app is designed to be tailored to individual needs by providing interactive activities to curb urges, tackle triggers, and explore expectations. It provides the right amount of support whenever and wherever it is needed most. Using push notifications on an iOS device, brief check-ins will be delivered three times per day. These check-ins will ask questions about urges, triggers, expectations, and gambling, and will take approximately 1 minute to complete. Information that is provided in these check-ins will determine whether the individual is in need of help in that exact moment. Depending on their response, the app will recommend some interactive activities that will help curb urges, tackle triggers, or explore expectations. These activities include a range of videos and games. Upon completing the activities, the app will deliver a follow-up check-in to see if anything as changed, recommending continuing using the activities on that menu if needed until there is no longer a risk of gambling. The development and evaluation of this app is funded by the New South Wales Office of Responsible Gambling and has been approved by the Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee (2020-304).
