Green Bowl: Easier Parenting

This app has been developed to help families resolve petty disputes between siblings.
Each day a child will be assigned as having the Green Bowl

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

It means the child with the Green Bowl gets to choose:
- To sit in the front seat of the car (if they are legally allowed to);
- Press the button in the lift;
- Have their bath / shower first or last at night;
- Choose the TV program after dinner.
Basically the list is endless but they are the holders of the Green Bowl so they get first choice that day.
When there are silly arguments between siblings that cannot be resolved amicably - whoever has the Green Bowl - decides the outcome.
Tomorrow - the next sibling in the list will be assigned the Green Bowl.

DOES THIS METHOD WORK?

It has worked for our family for over seven years and is still going.
It is aimed at families with two or more children aged between 2 and 14.

WHY THE GREEN BOWL?

When the kids were little, they used to argue over who would have the green plastic bowl at breakfast.
My husband put a note on the fridge to remind him who had the Green Bowl that day.
The next day would be someone else’s turn.
The name has just stuck. Other families always ask us, What is this Green Bowl thing when we are using it in public?

WHY DO I NEED AN APP FOR THIS?

Up until the release of this app - we still had the Green Bowl note on the fridge. Believe it or not it gets hard to remember who had what when. Days blend into each other.
When you are out and about and the squabbling starts - trying to memorise who had it yesterday is harder than you think.
Then the kids squabble over who had the Green Bowl yesterday.
My husband said to me - if only we had an app that could tell us.

SHOULD WE SOLVE OUR KIDS ARGUMENTS?

This method is a tool to stop the ongoing, silly, ridiculous squabbles that are just part of everyday life. For example:
- Who will wash their hands first?
- Whose turn is it to close the car door?
- Who decides the music in the car?

It is not meant to replace constructive argument about important things. It is just to make day to day life a little bit easier by providing a fair system where everyone gets a turn.
