Over the past 20 years our understanding of the brain has more than doubled, and research has given us some answers when it comes to happiness and mental resiliency. Research has shown that our experiences literally shape our brains and can change our nervous system, for better or worse. There is one big problem with that. As humans we focus on the negative aspects of our lives over the positive ones, it’s called the “negative bias.” The brain is like Velcro when it comes to negative experiences and these have a much greater effect on us emotionally. The reason for this is self-preservation, or the instinct to survive. The brain preferentially seeks out and stores negative information in an attempt to keep us safe from future harm, both physically and emotionally. This App is a very simple but effective tool to help your brain become Hardwired for Happiness. Research has shown that we activate and change the structure of our Insula (a part of the brain responsible for emotion, perception, homeostasis, self-awareness, cognitive functioning and interpersonal experience, etc.) when we pay close attention to our positive thoughts and inner feelings.
