App Store Description
Hector’s Dolphins are unique to New Zealand and their numbers are declining. They are easily recognisable by their rounded dorsal fins and grey and black markings.
The Hector’s Dolphin App gives you the opportunity to report sightings and help improve protection for these dolphins. The sightings will provide important conservation information and help reverse the continuing decline in Hector’s dolphin populations.
Photographs and locations of sightings provide the most important information so please take advantage of the App’s facility to record these.
We are particularly interested in sightings in the top part of the South Island and the lower North Island (Wanganui, Wellington, Wairarapa) but please report all sightings.
The App also allows you to report sightings of other whale and dolphin species.
Whale & Dolphin Conservation thanks ThunderMaps and Gemma McGrath for developing this App.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
