When Denys Lasdun designed the National Theatre, he had the idea to make a fourth theatre – one where the actors are the people who pass through here every day. In the fourth theatre dramas happen everywhere. The entrances and exits are behind you, or above you. And the action spills out into the open air.

With this app you and your group will discover your own Hidden Stages amongst the nooks and crannies of this giant building. The terraces, foyers and staircases will form the backdrop to scenes and stories that you and your group will create as you explore. You’ll be guided at every step, and at the end, you’ll have a storyboard of pictures that capture your very own production at the National Theatre.
