Howmuch-ometer for Mindsets is a simple digital tool for young learners to register how much they have of each of five key mindsets that are linked to success in school and life, in order to help measure their growth in those mindsets over time. It helps early learners become aware of their thoughts and feelings, a first step in emotional regulation.
Designed to accompany Bouncy the People Trainer's You Can Learn program, Howmuch-ometer for Mindsets can also be used to help evaluate impact on young learners' attitudes of other mindset training and SEL programs.
The mindsets are:
• I belong (attachment), as measured by feelings of inclusion, acceptance and respect at school.
• I can (self-efficacy), as measured by confidence in the ability to learn what’s needed for mastery.
• If I try hard, I get better at things (growth mindset), as measured by beliefs about the value of effort.
• If I keep trying and don't give up when things are hard, I can succeed (grit), as measured by beliefs about the value of perseverance.
• If I really care about things, including school, I can do well with those things (value school success), as measured by my attitudes toward school success and those of people around me.
Each of these mindsets has been independently linked to perseverance in learning, and through academic perseverance with school success.
Howmuch-ometer for Mindsets comes with a built-in Data Manager to track progress over time. Be sure to share results with young learners so they can see how they change and grow over time, similar to how you use physical growth charts to mark changes in height.
