This mHealth app is divided into five sections/lessons. The lessons include bulleted discussions and illustrations based on the available guidelines.
Lesson 1. Diagnosis - This includes subsections for definition and classification of hypertension, proper BP measurement with illustration showing positioning of the patient, and link to validated BP devices.
Lesson 2. Risk Assessment - Risk factors for hypertension are listed in this section. Main risk factors listed are diabetes, lipid disorders, overweight-obesity, hyperuricemia, and metabolic syndrome. Hypertension-mediated organ damage is also discussed with focus on each organ and how the injuries can be detected using physical and laboratory examination.
Lesson 3. Physical Examination - This section contains a dedicated subsection for calculating and classifying body mass index (BMI). Discussion is divided per important organ system and includes illustration on how to detect relevant physical findings for hypertension.
Lesson 4. Laboratory Examination - This section is divided into four topics: blood tests, urine test, electrocardiogram (ECG), and optional tests. Each topic lists cut-off values and significant findings relevant for hypertension.
Lesson 5. Treatment. This section is divided into three subsections: (1) Treatment goals, which includes BP targets based on age. This also includes a treatment algorithm for hypertension management. The user will be given recommendations based on target BP achievement. (2) Non-pharmacologic treatment includes a list of lifestyle changes proven to impact hypertension prevention and control that can be shown to patients as an educational material or motivational strategy. (3) Pharmacological treatment focuses on the 1st line drugs for hypertension, including proper dosing, contraindications, and costs. Other drugs, which are not 1st line but are indicated for specific conditions are included. This will also include a subsection for drugs used in the presence of other comorbidities or conditions. Moreover, the app provides costs of available drugs in the Philippine market to help physicians and patients decide the most suitable drugs.
Lesson 6. Hypertensive Emergency - This section includes the definition of hypertensive emergency, its clinical presentations and recommended acute management.
The app will start with a different set of questions (“Quiz of the Day”). These quizzes are multiple-choice questions pertaining to a particular section in the app (“Lessons”). The user will be given the correct answer immediately once a question is answered.
