iALS is a powerful and easy to use documentation and algorithm support tool for trained Advanced Adult Life Support (ALS) providers. The app has been designed and developed by clinicians regularly involved in cardiac arrests who understand the significant role human factors play. The aim of this app to help to reduce the impact of human factors, facilitate clear recording of events, and allow users to work through the ALS algorithm with confidence.

iALS provides users with an intuitive and easily readable resuscitation dashboard. The dashboard displays timers as well as cycle and drug delivery counters. This provides the user with a clear overview of their place in the ALS algorithm. Alarms and voice guidance provide multi-sensory prompts to allow users to simultaneously lead and scribe during an arrest. iALS has the Resuscitation Council UK ALS algorithm built in, and will provide prompts for adrenaline and amiodarone appropriate to the cycle in the algorithm. If you give adrenaline or amiodarone out of cycle, iALS will take note of this, recalibrate, and only recommend it again on the alternate cycle.

iALS allows the user to keep track of interventions. A top bar including access, airway, oxygen and Lucas allow the user to input specific interventions and keep track of what has already been done. Interventions can be removed and new ones added with ease. Every time a change is made, a clear timestamp is recorded in the log.

Commonly used drugs can be found in the drugs entry button and when selected will be timestamped in to the log. There is also a function to add other events in free text.

iALS also houses an inbuilt arterial blood gas (ABG) calculator to allow users to input ABG results, calculate the likely derangement and record the results into the log. There is also an easy to use H’s and T’s page where the user can confidently address possible reversible causes for the arrest.

iALS is designed to be used by the multidisciplinary team and considers a patient’s providers from paramedics to intensive care specialists. The handover function allows the user who started the arrest to seamlessly transfer the iALS arrest recording onto the next users device. This allows the team member receiving the handover to have a clear overview of the arrest and continue with confidence from where the previous user left off. Once the arrest has finished the user will be able to send the log via email or copy it to their clipboard for precise timestamped recording of all the events during the arrest.

iALS is a novel digital tool designed and tested by people who are regularly involved in cardiac arrests for accredited ALS providers
