The iBeatPain application helps teens with chronic pain and other symptoms. Are you a teen who has suffered with pain for months or even years? Have you limited your daily activities because of your symptoms? Teens with chronic pain or fatigue sometimes struggle to attend school every day, participate in daily physical exercise, and have fun with friends. For chronic pain to improve over time, teens need to slowly get back to their normal daily lives and participate even when they are not feeling well. This recommendation can be difficult or even overwhelming. The iBeatPain app helps teens and their parents by providing step by step guidance on their journey to wellness. The iBeatPain app identifies the goals and the small steps that teens need to take on a daily basis in order to get back their lives and return to normal daily functioning.

Goals:
Every teen is unique and has different strengths and challenges. The iBeatPain application allows teens to select goals that are important to them. The app provides “Tips” for each goal to help teens set goals that are specific and achievable. Teens can create their own goal or select from several goals known to be both challenging and important for many teens with chronic pain, including
Engage in Self-Care (etc., brushing teeth, showering, eating meals)
Practice Relaxation
Participate in School
Set Regular Sleep and Wake Times
Exercise and Stretch
Have Fun
Improve Sleep Quality
Track Progress
Choose Positive Self-Talk
Get Moving

Inspiration Box:
Beating pain and other chronic symptoms can be tough. Some teens find that it helps to have inspiration on their journey toward wellness, so the iBeatPain application provides an inspiration box into which teens can place positive quotes, photos, or videos that lift, motivate, or empower them. We have preloaded this box with quotes that help us get through tough times, but teens may wish to add their own motivating quote from a friend, video of family cheering them toward health, or a photo of someone special. The ‘Inspiration Box’ provides teens with inspiration and motivation to help them reach their goals.

Connecting with other teens:
Teens who have pain and other symptoms sometimes feel alone and think they are the only teens dealing with these difficulties. The iBeatPain application provides a doorway for teens with chronic symptoms to start talking with other teens with pain or fatigue through a link to Mayo Clinics Connect site with the same title, “iBeatPain for Teens.” From this link, teens can meet others with pain, hear helpful advice from Mayo physicians who specialize in pain, and read patient education materials produced at the Mayo Clinic.
