App Store Description

iBrushTeeth was originally built for teaching individuals with special needs how to brush their teeth independently and accurately without assistance. The application provides three different levels (Simple, Regular, and Detailed) of the tooth brushing process in order to accommodate each individual’s skills and needs.

This application includes tooth brushing assistance, a social story, and teacher tools. In all modes, you can change the assistance level.

In Simple brushing mode, you can enable countdown visuals (timer), voice over and character assistance, highlighted tooth images, and tooth brushing movement. In Regular mode, the focus is on brushing in order from the upper left teeth to the lower left teeth. This includes options to enable preparation steps or spitting assistance or to change voice over labels. The Detailed mode focuses on increasing accuracy by brushing the inner and outer teeth of each side.

You can change the duration of brushing and disable unnecessary visual/voice assistance as an individual improves his or her skills.

If you are an educator or parent working with individuals with special needs and struggle to help them improve their brushing skills, this application will be a very helpful tool. Daily brushing practice with this application will be most effective and recommended.

The Teacher Tools folder includes an example of a data sheet and a phase sheet to keep track of an individual’s development as he or she practices tooth brushing with this application. If you don’t know the terms for techniques such as shaping, forward/backward chaining, prompt hierarchy, etc, you can easily find them online. If the individual works with an Applied Behavioral Analysis professional, please refer the professional to this application and ask for advice on using it properly.

“Education for Everyone” is the motto of this application. iBrushTeeth is not only for a typically developing child, but also for children and adults with special needs who have difficulties with brushing their teeth because of a developmental delay related to circumstances such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Learning Disability (LD), or Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Asperger’s Syndrome.
