What is it about?

This app helps to estimate the absolute five-year cardiovascular risk of Indigenous Australians and stratify the assessed person as one with high, moderate or low risk. A summary of guidelines for management of cardiovascular risk is provided based on the calculated risk. Two equations are used in this app: (1) the Primary Equation requires input from seven risk factors including sex, diabetes, age, systolic blood pressure, waist circumference, triglycerides and albumin:creatinine ratio; and (2) the Reduced-information Equation requires input from five risk factors that do not require any laboratory test. These equations were derived from the prediction models developed by Dr An Tran-Duy (developer of this app) and co-workers, which have been internally validated in an Indigenous cohort in North Queensland, Australia.

The cardiovascular event in this app indicates one of the following endpoints: coronary heart disease (coronary insufficiency, myocardial infarction, or angina pectoris), cerebrovascular events (ischemic stroke, haemorrhagic stroke or transient ischemic attack), congestive heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, or coronary deaths.
