What is it about?

Come and visit a private Parisian mansion, but not just any such mansion! The Hôtel de Marle, in the Marais district, has a long history… and it has been owned by many different people! Since 1971, it has been the home of the Institut Suédois in Paris. This visit traces the life of this building and its occupants from the sixteenth century to the present day. Some of those who lived here were famous, such as Charles Baudelaire, Léonor Fini and André Pieyre de Mandiargues. The tour also looks at the close relationship between our two countries, France and Sweden, ever since the seventeenth century. Nowadays, the Institut Suédois continues to strengthen these links through a multidisciplinary programme dedicated to contemporary current affairs. So come to 11 Rue Payenne, behind the great carriage entrance, to discover this outstanding building: its paved courtyard, its painted beams, its unique roof, its art collection and also its charming garden!
