A smart way to learn the vocabulary of a new language

Studying abroad and trying to learn all the new words you hear every day?
…or doing business internationally and your vocabulary never gets broad enough?
LookUP Notebook will help you to fix it!

Search - for a word in LookUP dictionary and it will automatically be incorporated into your notebook lists. See the definition, translation and examples of its use.

My lists - Check your words in your notebook lists any time you like.
· By Date: in the order that you have searched for them
· By Alphabet
· By Status (learned / not learned)
· By Category: you can create as many categories as you want to group your new words according to your interests (finance, sports, marketing…)

Practice – your words until you have mastered them. Change the status of the word once you have learned it and this word won’t be asked again (the app will ask a small % of words already learned just to keep them fresh in your mind)

How does LookUp Notebook work?

When you search for a word with LookUp Notebook, the app automatically memorizes the word and puts it in your list where you can always find it later. You can listen to the pronunciation, (a few words don't have the listen function available) write notes, decide the status of this word (learned/not learned), and categorize the word in categories you can create (and delete!). Categories like: Sports, Business, Health, or whatever you want.

Go to your lists to review the words you have searched previously by date, alphabet, status (learned/not learned), and by category with the categories that you created.

Then have fun practicing them until you learn them. Look Up Notebook will use the words you have searched in the practice sessions.
When you go the practice screen, the app will start showing you the words you have looked up and ask you what the word means in your new language. If you know, tap answer and check if you were right. If you have learned the word you can mark it as learned (thumbs up) so that next time, LookUp won’t show it in your practice session. All the words will stay in the list forever so that you can always check them, but you will practice only with those words you have searched and not yet learned.

LookUP Notebook was conceived by several international students (us!) that were struggling with the number of new words we were finding everyday just reading the class materials and in the activities outside class. There was no easy place to capture all the new words that we were searching in the dictionary every day . We were writing these words in our notebooks but that wasn’t sufficient and wasn’t much help in making these words part of our new vocabulary!

LookUP Notebook’s learning algorithm is based on cognition-association which is the key for a smart and easy learning. Because we have seen the words before in a certain context, it is easier to remember when you see them again. This is why LookUP Notebook includes the practice section. It retrieves the words, stimulates the connections and helps to make learning easy and fun.
We hope that you find LookUP Notebook to be as useful to you as it has been for us. We welcome your comments or suggestions.
