Nature calls – observe and learn from nature
The application tracks the life of the most common animal species in southern and
central Finland and reindeer herding areas throughout the year. Our footage from observation sites located at intersecting habitats allows you to observe the animals in their natural environment.
Observing nature teaches you about the wildlife of Finland and brings you closer to the
world around you. When we go to sleep at night, that’s usually when the forest comes to
life! Observing nature makes you realise that we are surrounded by many things that can surprise us with their uniqueness. The world of animals is divided into their natural habitats and passageways, protected areas and breeding areas.
Observing nature’s events supports your learning and deepens your knowledge of Finnish
wildlife. Luontovisio’s application can also support your work if you work in a profession
where following nature’s events is important. If you want to understand biodiversity but
your busy city life doesn’t allow much time to explore forests, or if you have moved away
from Finland and still want to stay updated on what’s happening in our nature. The
application allows you to get to know and learn more about the animals
seen at the observation sites. Other nature enthusiasts also benefit from the Luontovisio application because of its rich and diverse material.
Nature Book – free of charge
The application includes an educational Nature Book, which serves as great self-study
material that you can access directly from your phone. The book includes a year-long
trip into the world of Finnish wildlife. The book provides weekly observations from all seasons of the most common animal species in Finland. The footage also includes the time of sighting and information about the species. The book is free of charge.
Nature’s Events – paid content
The application also includes a paid service, Nature’s Events, which allows you to track the
observations of dozens of automatic cameras throughout the year. Most of the observation sites are located far away from human habitation, in the depths of old forests, wilderness areas, and riverbanks. Wild animals are sensitive to the presence of humans
and their species-typical behaviour is easily disturbed. The Luontovisio application offers
material on animals that live in their natural habitats without human interference.
The animals found at the observation sites include animals residing in the area as well as
individuals visiting the area, such as those born in the area. Especially during the mating season, various animals move around the observation sites, some may even come from very long distances. The observation sites bustle with new life when the young
start to explore the world outside their nests and burrows. Young individuals tend to stay in the area in which they were born and are often spotted at the observation sites as
they explore their living environment. Following the growth and development of a young creature can be very riveting!
