MAFF 2021

Malmö Arab Film Festival - MAFF is the leading and largest film festival
focusing on Arab cinema outside the Arab world. The festival has been
held since 2011 and has since then come to provide a platform for Arab
cinema in Europe. MAFF grew out of a common need in Malmö and
Sweden—a longing to create an Arabic cultural platform with film as the
binding element. The starting point for the festival was just this - to create
a meeting place around Arab Cinema in Malmö, Sweden and Europe.
The festival was founded by the festival's general manager and creative
leader Mouhamad Keblawi. It started as a grassroots initiative and has
since undergone a tremendous development and is now the largest film
festival in southern Sweden. The first edition of the festival clearly
showcased a great demand and during the next two years, the foundation
of the festival was built, receiving great attention in both Sweden and
internationally. The range of films and international guests increased as
well as collaborations with external organizations. The organization is an
all-year-around operation working with special events and festivals across
Sweden. Malmo Arab Film Festival is ultimately an organization that
promotes diversity and tolerance with the cinema as its tool. The film
medium has a universal language and offers an unbeatable explosiveness
as narrator and as a foundation for understanding and humanity.
