What is it about?

Make Maths Count uses a daily mathematics challenge that develops the use of manipulatives to support understanding in mathematics, supporting a concrete–pictorial–abstract approach every day. Each topic has 6 weeks of activities, covering core number topis of + and -, x and ÷, place value, counting, representing numbers & fractions. Make Maths Count uses manipulatives to make the maths experience hands-on, such as natural resources, dice, playing cards, dominoes, bead strings, counters, straws & lolly sticks. There is also some use of more formal resources such as Cuisenaire rods, cubes & Dienes. Teachers will also develop their own range of pedagogical strategies for supporting understanding, and each task can be adapted to suit the individual needs of the children.
