Marathon

S.E.G.A.S (Greek Association of Athletics Associations) in cooperation with Research and Engineering Consulting office provides the Marathon App for the 2015 authentic Marathon Run in Athens Greece.

Marathon App is an application concept inspired from a team of marathon runners -engineers, and especially lovers of the Authentic Marathon Route.

The application provides the ability to friends or relatives of the athletes-runners to get informed about their progression during the Marathon race in real time, through periodic and automatic location update posts in the Facebook page wall of each athlete that uses the application during the race.

Each Marathon App Facebook post includes a personal message defined by the athlete inside the app, a detailed athlete's position map and run statistics (time and distance) until the athletes-runners current location during the post time.

The user of the app can initiate and terminate at any time the automatic facebook post process of the marathon run position updates. The facebook posts are updated every 10 minutes during the race. When the user stops the location update process is also optionally prompted by the app to post a final personal marathon run finish message.

The application uses GPS in the background that can dramatically decrease battery life of the user's smart device and also Cellular data in order to post position updates to the user's Facebook Wall during the run. The usage of Cellular data may lead to charge for the user by the mobile operator if an apropriate data plan is not available.

The user is been properly informed about the above requirements through the necessary in application dialogs and warnings.
